Peter Iversen represents District 1 on the Monroe County Council, an elected position he has held since 2019. In 2025 he was elected by the council to be president pro tempore. In 2024 he made an unsuccessful bid for the Monroe County Board of Commissioners for the District 2 seat, but was defeated in the Democratic Party primary by incumbent Julie Thomas.

Since 2022 he has worked as a Philanthropic Engagement Officer for the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.

He is married to Leah Sinn Iverson, a licensed clinical social worker. They have two daughters and live on Bloomington's far east side.
